The Cursed White Rose Chapter 8 - Permission

Here's Chapter 8. I got it out quickly since I'm still on my writing mode. Though I am taking time here and there to read new stuff. Next chapter will be my attempt to spice up the current storyline a bit so look forward to it.

Before that though. Someone pointed out, much to my negligence, that I have not created a character list. So I'll get on that first before working on Chapter 9. Right now I just plan to make a short description with a bit on each character's personality.

The next morning, Sara comes downstairs and starts eating Rose's readily made breakfast. Rose continues to make preparations as Sara eats.

Sara: "Rose, Tsubaki and Yuki called me. Tsubaki says any time after 9am is fine. Yuki asks to for you to speak with her grandmother after school when she gets there."

Rose: "Okay~"

Sara: "Do you already know where to go?"

Rose: "Of course! Who do you take me for?" Rose bears a wide grin on her face.

Sara: "Tsubaki also mentioned that her father is the head of a yakuza group and to be prepared for a fight."

Rose: "I know. I already prepared for it."

Sara: "You won't hurt them right? They're Tsubaki's family, so please don't go too far."

Rose: "Don't worry. I'll just scare them a bit. I have ways of dealing with them without hurting them, so there's no problem."

Sara: "Okay...If you say so."

Sara finishes eating and heads off to school. She asked if she should leave the book behind, but Rose insisted on taking it with her.

After 9 am, Rose promptly changes her appearance. Her white hair darkens becoming pure black and shortens until it barely reaches her hips. Her eyes become a dark brown as her entire skin color darkens from a pale white to a light peach. Her top becomes a white blouse as her bottom becomes a light blue skirt stretching past the knees. White high heels appear on her feet. Rose finishes changing and proceeds to lock up the house before leaving. She sets up several automatic magic barriers as she leaves the entire property.

Rose: "Redirect."

Rose casts a simple spell to turn people’s attention away from herself. The spell allows Rose to move freely without anyone noticing her, no matter how ridiculous her actions are. Rose activates a device on her hip turning on a weak electromagnetic field. The device emits an electric barrier around Rose to distort any and all photographic cameras so that her image distorts and blends with the surroundings on camera. With her preparations complete, Rose bends her knees tensing her legs. She releases the pent up energy and performs a giant leap.

Rose flies up thirty meters into the air and sails through the distance. She sees her destination as she starts to descend naturally. Rose gracefully lands on a quiet street corner and takes only two steps after landing to disperse her remaining momentum. She walks calmly down a street passing by an extremely large home. The boundary walls surrounding the property take up the entire block. She stops midway down the block at the front door and rings the doorbell. Rose patiently waits until the door opens.

A large man appears in the doorway. He towers over Rose easily reaching two meters. His entire body is quite muscular and can easily be seen through his white shirt. He's dressed quite casually in a white shirt and jeans. The man looks down at Rose.

Man: "Yes. What do you need Jou-chan?"

Rose smiles. "I'm here to see Tsubaki-chan's father. Tsubaki-chan should have mentioned I was coming."

The man frowns looking at Rose's appearance. Her appearance looks like someone barely out of high school.

Man: "Tsubaki mentioned her friend's mother would be visiting. But you look too young to be her."

Rose: "Haha. I get that a lot. I did adopt my daughter, so our ages aren't that different. Here. My license and adoption paper for my daughter." Rose passes her ID and adoption papers for Sara to the man. The man looks at it briefly before giving it back to Rose.

Man: "Fine. It looks real. Please come in."

The man steps aside and lets Rose in. A few other men stand around talking in the courtyard, but turn their gazes at Rose. Some lick their lips seeing Rose’s fair chest, thin waistline and thin legs. Rose’s entire image made the men think of a pure, untainted girl. Rose ignores all of the men’s gazes as she follows the man in front of her. Rose is escorted to a dining hall where a large, black haired man is finishing his breakfast. He’s dressed in a black kimono[1]. His body is muscular, but not as excessively as the man that lead Rose here. Two scars in the shape of a cross rest across his left eye. His eye seems to still be functional with the scars only damaging the skin.

Man in Kimono: “Yes, what is it?”

Man: “Company. Says she’s the mother that Tsubaki told us about.”

Man in Kimono: “This one?” He appraises Rose. “She’s too young. She’s no mother.”

Rose: “Because I adopted her. I wanted to help my daughter so I took her in.” Rose sits at the table across from the man in the kimono. “I have the proof if you want to see it.”

The man takes it from Rose and passes it to the man in the kimono. He looks at it and grunts passing it back towards Rose.

Man in Kimono: “Fine, fine. What do you want?”

Rose: “Well first. It’s a pleasure to meet you. My name is Akari Rose. My daughter Sara has been in Tsubaki’s care since she started school here.”

Man in Kimono: “Tamura Gento.” The man grunts his response. Some noise is heard in the background, but he ignores it.

Rose: “I’m sure you must be busy, so I’ll get to the point. Tsubaki expressed an interest in studying under me. I am planning a camping trip to help the girls get some practice. It will be two days and one night. I told Tsubaki about it and she wanted to go, so I felt I should make sure to greet her parents if I was going to borrow their daughter overnight.”

Gento: “Meaning she asked you to come here for permission.” Gento grumbles his response, but Rose calmly looks at him without a response. “In the first place, what are you even teaching that child?”

Rose: “What you ask? Fighting, of course. That’s what she asked for.”

Gento and the other man stare at Rose in surprise. They roar in laughter and almost fall over. Multiple voices are heard laughing from the side. When the other man recovers, he opens the door to see several other men in the courtyard eavesdropping.

Gento: “What could a brat your age know about fighting?”

Rose: “Oh? Don’t you know appearances are deceiving?”

Gento: “Bah. Rubbish. The only thing you look like you know is how to cook and clean.”

Rose: “I do know how to do that or I wouldn’t be able to maintain my home. Well it can’t be helped.” Rose sighs before giving out a glare with an incredible amount of bloodlust leaking out from her body. The men all stop laughing under Rose’s glare. The room’s temperature seems to have dropped below freezing. The same thought runs through their minds ‘If I move, she’ll kill me.’ Rose relaxes a bit letting most of the bloodlust fade away. “Well something like that.” The men inwardly shiver looking at the exceeding calm Rose.

Gento: “So you’re saying you will kill me if I don’t agree?”

Rose: “No, of course not. You’re Tsubaki’s family so I won’t do that. I am simply showing you that I’m not an inexperienced brat like you think I am. If needed, I’ll show you more…”

Gento: “No, that’s enough. Tsubaki can go. But I won’t forgive you if Tsubaki get hurt.”

Rose: “Of course. I will do everything I can to bring her back in one piece. Whether I make her suffer from my hell training is another question.”

Gento: “Good. That child needs to be worked harder. She’s been too relaxed.”

Man: “Boss. Don’t you think you’re giving permission too easily? You don’t know anything about her.”

Bang! A low bang resounds in the room. The men pull out their guns as they look around the room for the gunman.

Man: “Who was that?”

Rose calmly moves her hand to the side of her head. She makes a pulling motion as she yanks out a crumpled piece of metal. Rose inspects the piece of metal.

Rose: “Sniper bullet. Specially designed for high penetration. Nice try though.” Rose flicks the bullet towards Gento. “Not something to be worried about. I’ve taken care of it. Anyways, I’ll take my leave now.”

Gento looks at the bullet before looking at Rose. “Oi. You got shot? Don’t you need treatment?”

Rose: “Not for something on this level. It didn’t work anyways, so there’s no point.”

Rose strides out of the room leaving the men completely stunned. Rose leaves Tsubaki’s home reactivating her spells at once. She jumps into the distance and lands some 2,000 meters away on a building rooftop. She looks down at the charred remains of a supposed person. A pool of blood sits on the roof and only a shoe with a foot inside is the only intact piece. The broken remains of a gun sit next to the pool of blood. The barrel is rolled back into four pieces like a peeled banana. The area around the stock of the gun is shattered into numerous pieces.

Earlier, when Rose received the bullet, she could accurately tell where the bullet came from. In exchange, she released a fireball in the shape of a bullet following the exact trajectory as the sniper round. The fireball spell is one of the most basic spells that barely uses any magic whatsoever. The fire bullet shot right at the sniper and directly into the barrel of his sniper rifle exploding after reaching the hammer arm. The result was quite destructive to the unprepared gunman.

Rose pulls out a black orb and drops it into the pool of blood. Immediately, the blood and gun remains are absorbed into the black orb without a trace. The rooftop is immediately restored to its original condition without a single thing out of place.

Rose: “Clean up is done. Time to go home.” Rose disappears from the rooftop.

After school, Sara and the others are heading towards Yuki’s house. They chat cheerfully with one another discussing random topics. They see Rose waiting at the base of the stairs to Yuki’s home still in her disguised appearance. The four of them ascend the stairs together.

Tsubaki: “I got a message from my father that he approved. Did it go that smoothly?”

Rose: “No problem.”

Sara: “You didn’t do anything excessive.”

Rose: “Hmm… No. Not that I can think of.”

Sara: “…What did you do then?”

Rose: “Talk, show them I’m skilled by releasing some killing intent, finished agreements, kill an assassin that shot me. Nothing major.”

Sara face palms while Yuki and Tsubaki’s jaw drops.

Tsubaki: “A-are they okay?”

Rose: “Of course. I just scared them a bit. I made sure to properly weaken it, so that they wouldn’t die from shock.”

Sara only sighs at Rose’s response.

Yuki: “Please don’t go that far with my parents.”

Rose: “I doubt that’s necessary.”

The four of them arrive at the top of the stairs and see a medium sized Shinto shrine[2]. The building is a combination of white panels and brown edges. The roof is lined with light blue shingles. The buildings and grounds both look extremely well maintained. The girls see an old lady sweeping the grounds. She is quite old and probably around 70 years old with completely gray hair. She wears a white robe for the top and a red hakama.[3]

Yuki: “Obaa-chan[4], tadaima[5]. I’ve brought my friends and Rose-san that I mentioned. Everyone this is my grandmother.”

Grandmother: “Okaerinasai[6]. Welcome, welcome. It’s nice to… Hmm?” The grandmother’s sight locks onto Rose. She approaches Rose and looks at her. “You… you aren’t human?” Rose remains extremely calm, but the girls are barely able to stifle a cry.

Yuki: “Eh…um…obaa-chan. She is…”

Rose: “That’s right.”

Yuki attempts to make an excuse, but Rose cuts her off telling her the truth. The girls all pale because of Rose’s declaration. No excuses come to their minds to deal with the situation.

Grandmother: “Mmm?” Yuki’s grandmother looks at the girls’ pale face and accurately reads the situation. “You girls already know about this?  Well what do I owe this visit? Do you want help moving on to the afterlife?”

Rose: “Haha. No, of course not. Even if I’m like this, I’m still very much a part of the living. I’m holding a trip to another world and need permission for Yuki since it will be overnight.”

Grandmother: “Oh ho? That’s interesting. Come in then. Let’s talk inside.”

Rose: “Okay.” Yuki’s grandmother heads to the home behind the shrine. Rose starts to follow, but turns around when she sees the girls standing still in shock. “Come on, let’s go.” The girls blankly follow her unsure of what to do.

The four of them sit around a table as Yuki’s grandmother pours some tea. After sitting down across from Rose, she looks at Rose again.

Grandmother: “Your appearance is quite amazing that you could imitate a human so well.”

Rose: “Haha. I was a human in my past, but I discarded my body after some time so that’s understandable. Oh yes, I’m still in disguise.” Rose returns to her normal appearance as her dress and hair becomes pure white again. Her eye colors return to their bright ruby red and sapphire blue color.”

Sara: “Um, Rose. Is it okay we’re discussing everything so openly?”

Grandmother: “It’s nothing to worry about. I won’t speak of things that easily. But tell me, what exactly are you? I’m quite curious.”

Rose: “That’s right. It’s fine, so relax~ As for me, a doll is probably the best description. A clay doll to be specific.”

Sara remembers Rose’s status that she saw yesterday. “What does the doll part mean exactly?”

Rose: “Pretty much what you’re thinking. My body is a lump of clay fashioned into a human form and brought alive with some magic.”

Grandmother: “Hooo… That’s quite interesting.” The grandmother looks again at Rose analyzing her. The girls stare at Rose in surprise.

Sara: “Is that because of the book?”

Rose: “No. Of course not. This is how I’ve been even before then. Anyways, we went on a tangent. I came here to discuss the trip. We were planning a trip to a world heavy with magic. The trip is two days and one night. We were planning to leave Saturday morning. The trip would focus on finding Yuki and Tsubaki familiars to form a contract with.”

Grandmother: “That’s quite interesting. So Yuki already knows magic then?”

Rose: “Nope. We’re taking a different approach to form a contract so that it’s easier to learn magic. Otherwise, it would take years before any progress is made. The problem is that they have little to offer, so this trip might be one of many trips to find a partner depending on their luck.”

Yuki: “What do you mean ‘little to offer’?”

Rose: “Normal contracts involve giving magic to a familiar to develop their abilities in exchange for the familiar’s strength. You two don’t have the necessary magic power since most contracts are made above a C rank. The major thing you have to offer is a chance to live here in the human world.”

Yuki: “I see…”

Tsubaki: “What are our chances?”

Rose: “It depends on the partner and your luck. We’ll have to wait and see.”

Grandmother: “If you’re teaching her magic, will you teach her some exorcism? It could be useful.”

Rose: “Hmm… When she develops enough, it’s possible. It depends on her efforts.”

Grandmother: “I see, I see. I have no problem with her going. Just make sure her grades don’t drop.”

Rose: “Of course. I’m making them do their homework before any training occurs anyways.”

Grandmother: “Then there’s no problem.”

Rose: “Good. We should get to training then. Thank you for understanding.”

Grandmother: “One more thing, please take care of Yuki.”

Rose: “Of course!”

Sara/Tsubaki: “Goodbye.”

Yuki: “Bye, Obaa-chan. I’ll be back later tonight.”

Yuki gives her grandmother a hug before the four of them leave. As the four of them walk down the stairs, Sara brings up a question.

Sara: “Yuki, why did you have Rose convince your grandmother? She agreed to Rose’s request really easily.”

Tsubaki: “No, no. I’ve come over before. She’s normally much stricter.”

Yuki: “I think it went easily because Rose openly talked about magic right from the start. She’s extremely perceptive about lies and secrets.”

Rose: “That’s part of her ability. She’s an E rank individual by magic world standards with all the abilities concentrated on her unique perception.”

Yuki: “That explains a lot.”

The four of them head back to Sara’s house. Rose immediately makes them finish their homework. Afterwards, she has them do physical training to their absolute limits. As they recover from their exhaustion, Rose gives Sara and Tsubaki their ID cards. They prick their finger mark their cards. Their status windows appear in front of them.

They discuss the status in full detail. Rose moves to having them practice their magic again. Sara makes progress as Rose has Sara release magic from each part of the body for the first time before releasing magic from the entire body all at once. Yuki and Tsubaki make some progress and are able to open and close their magic at will about half of the time.

Friday afternoon, Rose is drilling the three of them with heavy lessons. After the lessons, Yuki and Tsubaki ask to stay the night. Rose agrees provided the three of them get permission from their parents. After getting permission, Yuki and Tsubaki head home to gather their things for the trip and quickly return. Later that night, Sara, Yuki, and Tsubaki chat for some time, but Rose has them sleep early to get their rest. After Sara falls into a deep sleep, Rose slips out from the room without a sound.
