The Cursed White Rose Chapter 9 - Rose at Night

Chapter 9! Short one since I wanted to transition the chapters properly. And no it's Not sexual, I used the innuendo on purpose for fun. The focus of the chapter is pretty much out of nowhere, but I wanted to reveal more about Rose before it's properly explained.

This chapter ended up being quite hard for me to write. I hope you'll enjoy it though. My gaming habit is kicking up a bit, but I'll try to get chapters out in a timely fashion.

Rose: [Impact Shot]

A large explosion resounds through the room immediately followed by a second explosion.

Men: “Gahhh!!!!”

Two men fly back from the initial impact and slam into the wall twenty meters away. A second explosion resounds as they hit the wall. The wall cracks as the men are pushed into and buried into the deformation. On closer inspection, one is an incredibly short man around one meter tall with a long brown beard, classified as a dwarf. He wore heavy metal armor and wielded an axe larger than himself. The other man is more lizard than human, frequently called a lizardman. His body covered in scales rather than skin with his face resembling a lizard and claws on his hands and feet. He wore similar heavy metal armor while carrying a long sword. The two of them dropped their weapons as they crashed into the walls before being buried.

Man C: "Damn you!"

Rose: [Electric Discharge]

Another dressed in a blue magician's robe gathers magic as he starts chanting. Rose swings her right hand to the side. The man in the blue magician's robe and another man in a white priest's robe immediately put up magical barriers between them and Rose. A silence ensues as nothing happens.

Man D: "Hahah. It's a misfire! You've really fallen you damnnn...."

The man in the priest's outfit collapses onto the ground with the man in the magician's robe falling over immediately after.

Man E: "As always, you're a monster aren't you? Those four were all A ranked mercenaries. You dropped them like flies without any effort."

Rose: "... Scan."

The last of the five men stands in the center of the group. A blonde haired man, a head taller than Rose, stands calmly despite his comrades being knocked out. He wears a silver suit of armor with a silver long sword sheathed at his waist. He unleashes a large amount of pressure just standing near him.

Rose swings her right arm forward. The basement floor immediately reacts shooting the two unconscious men towards the wall with the buried men. After they crash into the wall, Rose prepares herself mentally as she glances at the lone standing man.

Hawkin: "Looks like you're all prepared. Even if you've weakened, the Undying Witch lives up to her name as a god-like magician. You beat four A rank men with the [Impact Shot] and [Electrical Discharge] D rank spells. That's unheard of since the spell level and magic used is so extremely low. I’d understand if you increased the output to bridge the gap, but you didn’t do that. It makes it all the more unbelievable."

Rose: "..."

Hawkin talks and praises her without making any special movements. Rose silently watches him talk without making any careless moves against the S rank opponent. He asks her how [Impact Shot] a D rank wind type spell meant to push back a target upon impact could explode so strongly and twice at that for a single spell. [Electrical discharge] is supposed to be a spell that releases electricity from the body to attack an opponent, yet not a single spark of electricity came from Rose's body. Despite this spell, she knocked out two men in an instant with this misfired spell. Rose just stares at him without a response.

Rose sighs at the guy's excessive chatter. She lifts one leg up as she reaches in between the layers of the skirt of her dress. Rose extracts a short katana, called a tachi, already drawn with the sheath still attached to her dress.

Hawkin: "Hasty aren't you? I haven't even finished my preparations yet. Though it's hard to say if you have either."

Rose: "..."

Rose tenses her legs as she pushes off the ground and disappears from sight. Hawkin draws his sword and points it downwards protecting his left side.

Clang! Skreeee!!!!

Rose reappears in front of him as her weapon clashes with his. The sound of metal scraping against one another resounds in the room. Rose clicks her tongue at her failed attack.

Hawkin: "To think you'd close the distance on your own. You're truly unpredictable."

Hawkin slashes upwards in a swift stroke. Rose sidesteps as she uses her free right hand to push his weapon further off course. Rose spins as she attacks Hawkin's neck from the back. He closes the distance and rams her with his shoulder. Rose flies back three meters from the impact disrupting her attack.

Hawkin: “Holy light, gather and form my blade. [Holy Blade]”

Hawkin’s long sword obtains a bright white glow as light gathers and forms around it. He swings his sword straight down shooting an arc of light at Rose before directly running towards her. Rose steps forward as she slashes at the arc. The air pressure from the slash forms an arc of wind as it clashes with the arc of light. Rose’s arc crashes into the side of Hawkin’s arc. Wind and light struggle against one another, but Hawkin’s attack is inherently stronger suppressing Rose’s attack. However, the arc of wind completed its job of diverting the arc of light away from Rose.

While their initial attacks were clashing, Hawkin had circled around behind Rose. He performs a diagonal slash upwards. Rose parries the sword as she steps to the side. Hawkin doesn’t let up as he performs a strong vertical slash straight downwards. Even with the light enhancing Hawkin’s attacks, Rose uses the tachi to meet the very tip of the sword and diverts the attack off course. Hawkin changes the attack and slashes at Rose again. Rose continues to side step and parries each slash as she backs away.

A drop of sweat runs down Rose’s face. Each attack becomes increasingly difficult to defend against as she desperately parries the move. The sword glows even brighter as Hawkin performs a thrust. Rose jumps to the side to avoid the attack landing several meters away. A large shockwave explodes through Rose’s previous position. Rose winces as her right arm splits down the length of her arm. She was on guard, but failed to react fast enough to completely dodge the attack. As Rose looks at her injury, a pale blue liquid drips out from her wound. Rose has a cold sweat down her back looking at the damage.

Hawkin: “Impressive. You dodged my [Cross Thrust] that’s my best skill. Though you didn’t get out unscathed, now I just have to wear you down.”

Hawkin doesn’t hesitate as he dashes at Rose attempting to kill her. He suddenly jumps back and glances to the side. Five bullets of wind shoot by narrowly missing him. Rose clicks her tongue at the missed attack.

Hawkin: “Here I was expecting a large attack. Is that all you have?!”

Hawkin sneers at the minor attack. A magic circle forms under Hawkin’s feet. Before he can react, tens of thousands of thin tendrils shoot upward from the ground and latches around him in an instant.

Hawkin: “What?! What is this?! In an instant without any magical preparations?! And this is hair?!”

Hawkin looks around in panic as he is bound to the ground by the hair tendrils rising from the magic circle. Hawkin’s body glows as he concentrates his magic, but the light fades after a flicker.

Hawkin: “What?! Why?!”

Rose: “Magic absorption.”

Rose speaks for the first time in front of him, but only speaks to further increase his panicked state. Rose smiles as her spell works so effectively. She had been preparing the formation since the beginning and gradually led him into the trap as she shifted her position. Naturally, she made sure to make it undetectable throughout the entire process.

Hawkin: “Damn. I’ll just cut through it!”

Hawkin maneuvers the sword in his hand and hacks at the hair binding him. The sound of metal screeching resounds through the room as the sword slides down the hair and slips from his grip.

Hawkin: “You reinforced it with magic! Damn it all!”

Rose grins as she jumps forward and straddles him. She readies her tachi as she stabs at his heart. She stops her movement as she disappears and lands two meters away from Hawkin. Three throwing knives fly over Hawkin as Rose reappears.

Rose: “Damn.”

???: “Hey~ Onii-san[1]. Looks like you can use some help.”

Rose and Hawkins turn to see a person dressed in worn brown clothing. From the voice, he seems to be a man. He wears a red scarf that is wrapped around his head to conceal himself. Some weapons hang on his side.

Rose: “Scan.”

Rose sighs as the magic circle weakens and releases Hawkin.

Rose: “B rank…”

Ian: “Onii-san. Let’s work together and take down this witch. We can split the reward money.”

A wide grin emerges from Ian. Hawkin stands up, but there’s no gratitude seen in his expression, only annoyance. Rose also wears the same expression as they look at him like he’s trash.

Ian: “W-what? Let’s work together?”

Rose: “Why don’t you take him?”

Hawkin: “Are you sure?” Hawkin glances at Rose in surprise.

Rose: “No problem. He’s already in range. Just leave a hit for me.”

Hawkin: “Then I’ll take you up on that.”

Hawkin’s arm disappears from sight as he performs a diagonal slash. Before Ian can react, a portion of his chest is severed and separates from the rest of his body.

Ian: “Huh?”

Rose jumps and performs a flying axe kick on Ian’s head. His head bursts open like a watermelon with his body cracking open immediately after. Blood bursts out in all directions as Rose lands on the ground. Some blood splashes on Rose, but it merely slides down her body without stopping before splashing onto the ground. Rose pulls out the black orb and drops it into the blood. The orb spins as it falls as a vacuum forms. The orb sucks up all the blood with its vacuum eliminating all traces of Ian. The black orb stops its vacuum as it floats in midair. It flies back upwards into Rose’s hand which she promptly flicks into the air where it promptly disappears.

Hawkin: “Graceful as always. The undying witch really lives up to her name.”

Rose: “Heh. Don’t mock me. I’m only a shell of my former self.”

Hawkin: “Either way, our battle was interrupted. Let’s leave it as your win for today.”

Rose: “Are you sure? You still had a trump card ready to use?”

Hawkin: “It’s fine. You won this match, so we’ll leave it at that.”

Hawkins disappears in a flash of light leaving Rose alone in the room. Rose sighs and clicks her fingers. Light spreads outward from Rose and spreads throughout the room erasing all traces of the battle including the four unconscious A rank opponents. Rose’s injured arm shines as it repairs itself. She glances at her arm as the injury disappears. She sighs again as she flexes her hand. She falls to her hands and knees getting into an Orz[2] position.

Rose: “I failed… I’m so weak!”

She mumbles to herself for several minutes about how pathetic she is before standing up. Rose brushes herself off and brings up her computer screen.

Rose: “Hah. Battle with one S Rank opponent using only D rank spells and below. 50% completion. Narrow victory acquired. Failure to avoid serious injury.” The computer records Rose’s words before disappearing. “Hah. I’m still too weak. I have to get stronger before someone seriously comes at Master…. Not much I can do about it now. It’s almost morning, so I should get back.”

Rose cleans herself up before leaving the basement.
